HYDERABAD: Even as the Central government has agreed to exempt AP students from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to medical colleges for two years, the state government is now gearing up to change syllabus for Intermediate course and bring it on par with CBSE, ICSE etc to facilitate students to compete in the allIndia competitive examinations. It has decided to bring changes in the Inter syllabus from the next academic year.Minister for secondary and Intermediate education K Parthasarathy held a meeting at his chambers in the Secretariat on Saturday with senior officials of the education department to review Intermediate syllabus.
Speaking to newsmen later, Parthasarathy said that the government is planning to bring necessary changes in Inter first year syllabus by March 2012 and second year syllabus by 2013. Steps were being taken to publish books with new syllabus in English language.Besides, it was also decided to start 355 Model schools under first phase and another 400 in the second phase across the state.

A governing body would be constituted with IIT professors, retired professors, eminent educationists and former CBSE members to look after functioning of the model schools. Besides, qualified candidates with English medium background would be selected through a special recruitment drive to teach in these model schools. A special curriculum on par with CBSE would be finalised for these schools. In all, about 755 model schools would be established across AP, he noted.
