THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: This one goes out for those who love Nature and Films alike. As part of the World Environment Day that falls on Sunday, the Centre for Gandhian Studies, University of Kerala, is organising a Green Film Festival in the city. The three-day festival would be inaugurated by Aswathi Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bai at the University Senate Chamber at 10 am on Sunday. The film festival will kick off with ‘Ulkazhcha’, which portrays the efforts of a visually-challenged person to protect the Nature around him which he cannot see. It will be followed by ‘Home’, which is a hour-long documentary shot from the skies on the present state of the Earth below. The first day will screen documentaries and short films, including ‘Manalpadukal’, ‘Vellayaniyude Vilapam’, ‘Kshanitham’, ‘Kavalvanam’, ‘Garbage Island’, ‘Don’t Rubbish It’, ‘Silent Witness’, ‘Jalam Jeevante Amruthu’, ‘Keralathinte Sasya Sambath’, ‘Samudrathinte Adithattu’ and ‘Induchoodanum Pakshikalum’.On the second day, the films included are ‘Oru Mazhuvinte Dooram Mathram’, ‘Stolen Water’, ‘Keralathile Pakshikal’, ‘Green’, ‘Nerkazhcha’, ‘Mountain of Monsoon’, ‘Jalathandavam’, ‘Puzhayozhukum Vazhikal’, ‘Jaiva Nanmayude Thiricharivukal’, ‘Silent Valley’, ‘Vezhambal’, ‘Chandanam’, ‘Iravikulam National Park’, ‘Forest Fire’ and a couple of films more. On the final day, one of the major movies is ‘At Melting Point’, which showcases global warming and the problems faced by the Himalayas as its theme. ‘Bhoomikkai’, which is a children’s play lasting one hour, would be screened. ‘Mathiketan Chola’, ‘Sacred Grove’, ‘Pathrakadavu’, ‘Alinte Katha’, ‘Pachilakoodu’ and an animation film on the theme of endosulfan are the films to be screened on June 7.‘Thousand Days and a Dream’, which was made by C Saratchandran and P Baburaj and which travelled to more than 17 film festivals across the world, would be screened at the Greens Film Festival.
