Srinagar: Four people were injured when terrorists exploded a grenade in Rainawari locality of Srinagar on Sunday.

Terrorists hurled a grenade on a picket manned by CRPF personnel at Rainawari chowk around 1115 hrs (IST), official sources said.

The explosive device missed the intended target and exploded on the road injuring four civilians. The injured have been hospitalised.

The grenade attack took place despite stepped up security arrangements in the entire city in the wake of series of explosions, which left five persons dead and 37 others injured on Friday. Police on Saturday arrested nine Jaish-e-Mohammad militants in connection with the attacks.

Security forces cordoned Rainawari locality soon after the grenade attack and carried out searches.

Meanwhile, police averted a possible tragedy with timely detection of two grenades that had planted on the main road in south Kashmir district town of Pulwama.

A police party patrolling the road noticed the explosive devices and immediately sealed the area, the sources said. They added the bomb disposal squad was summoned and the grenades were neutralised.

Terrorists have escalated violence over the past few weeks in the valley ahead of bypolls in four assembly constituencies.

Pattan, Rafiabad and Sangrama in North Kashmir's Baramulla district and Bhaderwah constituency in Doda district are going to bypolls on April 24.
