Google's annual Zeitgeist report, showcasing what people searched for this year.

New Delhi: Whole year, you kept going back to Google over and over again to search for everything and anything you wanted to read or see on the web. You may have lost count and forgot it all. But Google hasn't.

The world's most preferred search engine has come up with a list of top searches of 2006 that it has compiled after comparing millions and millions of clickthroughs that happened on the site every micro-second from across the world.

So what was it that the web-savvy world looked for most during 2006? Any guesses!

According to Google's annual Zeitgeist report, showcasing what people searched for this year, Borat topped the list of 'Who is' searches, while Hezbollah topped the 'What is' searches. And the most searched for definition was 'promiscuous', followed by 'Web 2.0'.

The 'overall' list of top searches in 2006 reflect a heavy dose of 'Web 2.0' and social networking as well as one of the major sporting events of the year. Heading the list was the word 'bebo' followed by 'myspace', 'World Cup', 'metacafe', 'radioblog', 'wikipedia', 'video', 'rebelde', 'mininova' and 'wiki' in that order.

The top searches on Google News was, interestingly, Paris Hilton. Others in the rank were 'Orlando Bloom', 'cancer', 'podcasting', 'Hurricane Katrina', 'bankruptcy', 'Martina Hingis', 'autism', '2006 NFL draft' and 'celebrity big brother 2006' in that order.

In the celeb circuit, 'Nicole Kidman wedding' topped the list of wedding searches in 2006. This was expectedly followed by 'Tom Cruise wedding', 'Avril Lavigne wedding', 'Campbell Brown wedding', 'Tomkat wedding photos', 'Avril wedding', 'Tom-Katie wedding', 'Cruise-Holmes wedding', 'wedding crashers rules' and 'Pamela Anderson wedding' in that order.
