New Delhi: Film fests are the perfect occasions to have a glimpse of celebs. So it was when Sophia Loren and Monica Bellucci inaugurated the Roman Film Fest. And here's more news from film fests. Director Ang Lee's Lust, Caution has been pulled out from the Oscar Race.
Monica Mania
It was Monica all the way as the crowd went wild to cheer her when she came to inaugurate the Roman Film Festival along with classic beauty Sophia Loren.
Bellucci's French gangster flick-Le Deuxieme Souffle or Second Wind, is the opening film at the Roman Film Fest which runs till October 27. And the pretty lass plays the role of a gangster's moll.
The story revolves around the jailed gangster who returns to his lady love and then falls into the murky world of crime once again.
Quite a showstopper that she is, Monica also chatted briefly with the media people at the red carpet.
On the Road
Another film that is among the 14 films in competition at the ongoing Rome Film Fest is Reservation Road, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Jennifer Connelly as parents to a ten-year old who becomes the victim of a hit-and-run accident at a petrol pump.
The driver of the car is Dwight Arno, played by Mark Ruffalo who is driving with his own son. Never stopping to look back at the victim, the lives of the two fathers become intertwined in the course of the story.
While the grieving father becomes obsessed with finding the killer, divorcee father Mark is fighting his own demons.
Oscar blues
Oscar winner Ang Lee's Lust, Caution is already out of the Oscar race as Taiwan has dropped it as its entry as the best foreign film.
The reason? Well, Ang Lee who is otherwise immensely respected in the country has been accused of violating a law which says that at least some of the movie's personnel in cinematography, music, recording and costume design be locals.
For the US-based acclaimed director whose body of work includes award-winning works like Brokeback Mountain and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, this seems to be a big setback.
