Hyderabad: Who says Fatwa is always bad? Some Fatwas or Islamic religious decrees can be good. In a first of its kind move, Hyderabad police have secured a "Fatwa" to curb rowdy wedding celebrations in the old city area. The move comes after number of law and order problems were reported to police in the area due to late night weddings.

Loud music, dance performances and of course fireworks – this is a common sight at the weddings in old city area of Hyderabad. But for police, late night and loud wedding celebrations have become a law and order problem. People dancing dangerously with swords, parties with hired women dancers and even crimes such as stabbing, have raised serious concerns for the police. As a solution to the problem, Hyderabad police in a unique way have secured a fatwa from Jamia Nizamia on the issue.

Explaining the new initiative, south zone DCP V Satyanarayana said, “We were facing extreme problem in law enforcement due to religious sentiments. So we checked with Islam scholars if the law is against Islam."

The "fatwa" makes it clear that creating problems or causing inconvenience to people during wedding celebrations is wrong and people should obey the rules and regulations.

Supporting the police move, Jamia Nizamia spokesperson Mufti Mohammad Anwar said, “Muslims make mistakes during weddings like having loud music and dancers. So if police take action, there is nothing wrong."

The Hyderabad police have issued orders prohibiting the playing of loud music by DJs or orchestra without prior permission or celebrations that go beyond permitted time limit. But police in predominantly Muslim area of old city faced huge problems when people objected citing religious issues. This unusual move will indeed help police in maintaining law and order in the city.
