New Delhi: In the backdrop of massive protests over Rohith Vemula's (a Dalit scholar) suicide, the Hyderabad police on Tuesday sent a 'factual report' to the Union Home Ministry.
Sources said, the report contains people behind the agitation inside the Hyderabad University campus, details of suicide note and preliminary report on what prompted Vemula to take the extreme step.
Rohith, was one of the five Dalit scholars, expelled by the university in 2015 for allegedly attacking a student activist belonging to ABVP.
He was doing his PhD in science technology and society studies for the past two years. On Sunday (January 17, 2015), he locked himself in a hostel room and committed suicide.
For the last two days, students and politicians have stepped up protests against Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and the Vice-Chancellor over the suicide case. They also demanded resignation of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani.
Meanwhile, in order to build up pressure over the government to sack the Union Ministers, the Telangana Jagruti Yuva Morcha held protest outside Dattatreya's residence in Hyderabad.
Section 144 has been imposed on the campus barring large congregations to avoid any untoward incident.
The government has sent a fact finding team to the campus to probe the incident and it is likely to take further stand based on the report.
