New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Monday denied claiming miracle cure for diseases and said a government notice on his statements didn’t apply to him.
The Union Health Ministry’s AYSUH Department, which deals with traditional medicinal systems, sent Ramdev’s institute a notice after he reportedly claimed that yoga cures AIDS and other diseases.
"The notice doesn't apply to me. I have never made claims that I could cure diseases and I don't believe in magic. People suffering from diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and heart disease who have benefited after learning yoga made these claims," said Ramdev.
"I don't want to be dragged into any controversy. The notice was not a result of fight between two individuals and no lobby is after me."
Ramdev said he would like Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, who has criticised his statements, to visit his institute. "He (Ramadoss) is a very nice person and I am happy that he appreciated the fact that yoga plays a very important role. I would like to invite him to my institute so that he could judge that we are doing a scientifically backed research," he said.
Ramdev held a press conference in Delhi to clarify his stand. "The past few weeks media has been writing about Ramdev and Ramadoss. I have lot of respect for him and I know this (sending of notice) is not his fault. The people concerned have no knowledge of what I am doing. My institute will soon send the reply to the notice," said Ramdev, who is in Delhi for a workshop of Border Security Forces.
