Illegal sand quarrying case: DMK MLA arrested

MADURAI: DMK MLA and industrialist K C Palanisamy arrested in an illegal sand quarrying case was today granted bail by the Madras High Court Bench here.Justice C S Karnan in his order said Palanisamy (75), elected from Aravakurichi assembly constituency, was an aged man and had to discharge his duty as the people's representative.He directed Palanisamy to appear before the Investigation Officer whenever required.Palanisamy was arrested last month by Mayanur police in Karur district for illegal quarrying of sand from Cauvery river over the years. He had also been charged with threatening the local village Administrative officer and preventing him from discharging his duty.
