New Delhi: There seems to be no end to the government's apathy to grains wastage. Around 7,000 quintals of wheat were left to rot in the rain in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. The scarcity of godowns have led to the wastage of grains.
As reported earlier, the grain wastage in UP, Punjab and Maharashtra was due to inadequate storage facilities.
At a time when the government was pressing hard for the passage of Food Security Bill, foodgrains were left in the open to rot.
The Bill could not be passed because of strong opposition coming in from key ally and NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Food Minister KV Thomas. The Bharatiya Janata Party had asked the government to wait for Monsoon Session.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram had said that the government will try to build consensus around the Food Bill but a final decision was not taken on calling a special session of the Parliament.
