India's archers will vie for top honours at the home of cricket—Lord's.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team celebrated their 75 years in Test cricket with the first Test appearance at Lord's on June 19, and now another Indian team is set to make an appearance at the home of cricket on August 6.

India's men and women archers will vie for top honours with England and China in the inaugural npower International Archery Challenge for the MCC Cup. The Indian team will be boosted by the presence of 2004 Bangkok Asian Grand Prix winner Tarundeep Rai and 2006 Commonwealth women's champion Dola Banerjee.

The event has been organised as the ground is scheduled to host the archery competition during the London Olympics in 2012.

The Indian team also includes promising names such as Rahul Banerjee, Somai Murmu, Chekrovolu Swuro and Bombayla Devi, a Marylebone Cricket

Club (MCC) release said on Wendesday.

Britain's women's archery team includes Alison Williamson, who won bronze at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Britain and China will field their best possible teams for the competition, the release added.

MCC's Secretary and Chief Executive, Keith Bradshaw, said, "We're looking forward to welcoming all the archers to Lord's for this truly historic event. It's the first international archery tournament to be staged at Lord's in the ground's very long and distinguished history.

"The Indian community always gives its cricketers truly tremendous support; we hope its archers will be very well-supported, too," he observed.

The archers would be competing over a full 70-metre distance, the release stated.
