Archery competitions are held in compound and recurve categories, and Indians excel in the former, which is not an Olympic event.

New Delhi: A medal at the Olympics is the dream of every sports person and the Indian archery team is no exception but the focus of the team is on an event which is not event included in the Olympics.

Archery competitions are held in two categories of compound and recurve, and Indians excel in the former, which is not included in the Olympics whereas the Koreans rule the recurve event.

The difference between the two categories is in the type of bow used and there is no proper explanation by the Indian coach as to why the team is concentrating on a non-Olympic event.

The coach of the Indian archery team, Sanjeev Singh says," No our focus is on the Olympic gold and Asian games so no way are we going to compromise on recurve but we have taken to compound so the ones who are not performing can take to compound and do well."

But the Koreans who have dominated the sport for decades think it's only the Olympics that are worth preparing for and don't see any reason why they should waste resources on a non-Olympic event.

The Korean coach said that they don't concentrate on the compound event because it is not an Olympic sport and that the country, with its meagre resources, cannot afford to support a non-Olympic sport.

And not surprisngly, the Koreans have got their planning spot on as they swept the recurve events at the Asian archery championships, winning all three medals in both the men and women's categories.

India raked in medals in the compound event, which will not help their dream of winning an Olympic medal.
