INKEL, Mfar, VKL to set up logistics centre

KOCHI: A joint venture company of Infrastructure Kerala Ltd (INKEL), Mfar and VKL has bagged the tender to set up the logistics centre at Vallarpadam.The Cochin Port Trust (CPT) had invited tenders to set up a logistics centre at Vallarpadam. A logistics and cargohandling centre at Vallarpadom was a longpending demand of the trading community.The logistics centre is coming up in the 7.59 hectares of land leased by the CPT at Vallarpadam for 30 years.The lessee company has to pay an amount of Rs 2.36 crore per annum as lease amount. The leasing of the land is part of the CPT's efforts to improve cargo handling facilities close to the new International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT).The main activities to be carried out at the cargo and logistics centre include the consolidation and distribution of cargo.The logistics park will also enhance the supply chain capabilities of the industries involved. The centre also includes a container freight station (CFS).The land earmarked for the development of the logistics hub is close to the link road to the ICTT.
