Intelligence agencies often file false reports: Parrikar
Parrikar said that one can easily lie and those lies find their way into their reports.

Panaji: Relying on intelligence agencies does not pay, because many of their reports are often false, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Tuesday. Parrikar was speaking at a party function attended by the BJP's top office bearers in the capital.

"There is no need to rely on reports from intelligence agencies. The agencies send false reports anyway. Very often they have even spoken to me before filing their reports. One can easily lie and those lies find their way into their reports," Parrikar said, criticising the country's intelligence apparatus.

He also pointed to intelligence reports which were reportedly given to then prime minister late Indira Gandhi at the fag end of the Emergency which promised a thumping victory to the Congress if she wound up the Emergency and went in for elections.

"She believed the reports and announced elections. We all know how badly the Congress lost that election...I would say India is independent because the Congress never won a big majority after the Emergency," Parrikar said.
