The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bihar Police on Thursday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang illegally supplying explosives allegedly to anti-social elements.
The CID sleuths had arrested an explosives retailer from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Additional Director General of Police Headquarters (ADGP-HQ), Ravinder Kumar said the arrest is a result of investigation into the seizure of 12,000 electronic detonators and 828 gelatin sticks from car travelling at the Grand Trunk Road at Mohania in Rohtas district on April 1 this year. The driver, Sonu Kumar, was arrested in the case at that time.
The police also arrested the owner of the vehicle, Arvind Kumar Singh later on. "The CID sleuths found out that the detonators and gelatin sticks were manufactured by companies at Dholpur (Rajasthan) and Nagpur (Maharashtra). They had supplied to an explosives wholesaler Mishra Explosives at Mirzapur town in UP, who in turn provided them to a retailer Maa Lakshmi Traders there," said the ADGP.
The sleuths raided and nabbed Anup Kumar Singh, the owner of Maa Lakshmi Traders. 33 gelatin sticks, papers regarding procurement of explosives, laptop, pass books, mobile phones and LIC bonds were seized from him. He was not maintaining documents regarding sale of explosives.
"It seems Anup was illegally supplying explosives to anti-social elements and those indulging in illegal mining. We are trying to find out whether he, Sonu and Arvind have links with naxals," added the ADGP. Police officials said all the arrested persons are moneyed persons and own much property as well.
Their case will be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for action under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. Seven teams of CID officials is conducting raids and searches at various places in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand in their efforts to unravel the entire case.
