The Pendurti police on Saturday nabbed a three-member gang of inter-state robbers who were involved in stealing Rs 8.5 lakh cash from a car belonging to an employee of PSL Company in the city on September 8.
They committed the offence when the employee, Majji Vasantha Rao, parked the car near Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital near Naidu Thota after withdrawing the amount from ICICI Bank and went to visit his mother at the hospital where she was undergoing treatment.
Vasantha Rao was shocked to find the cash bag missing from the car when he returned after 10 minutes. He immediately lodged a complaint with the Pendurti police. The money was meant for payment of salaries to PSL employees.
The accused managed to steal the cash bag without breaking the doors or the glass window panes of the car. They would be produced in court on Sunday, Commissioner of police J Poornachandra Rao said.
Producing the arrested before media, the CP said that Rs 5 lakh cash and a Scorpio were recovered from the gang.
The accused were identified as Syed Wasif, a native of Bengaluru, and Mohammed Dawood Ahmed Khan and Mohd Faheemuddin of Falanuma, both residents of Hyderabad
The accused are involved in many robbery cases in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Tirupati. The Mumbai, Hyderabad and Tirupati police had launched a hunt for Syed Wasif who was involved in 12 cases in Gammdevi and Hiranandani police station limits of Mumbai, two cases in Jubilee Hills and Saidabad areas of Hyderabad and one in Alipiri police limits at Tirupati.
The CP said Mohammed Dawood was involved in two cases at Saidabad in Hyderabad and Alipiri at Tirupati while Mohammed Faheemuddin alias Shooter was involved in two cases in Hyderabad.
The accused were involved in the theft of a Scorpio car at Nagpur. They changed the original number of the vehicle and were using it with a fictitious registration number. They were committing the offences using the stolen car. The gang looted Rs 4 lakh cash from a car at Khammam.
