New Delhi: Alia Bhatt had an impressive debut in 'Student of the Year'. Karan Johar's film did well at the box-office as per the expectations, but somehow the lead actors of the film failed to leave an impression on critics. Now, she is all set to return with Imtiaz Ali's 'Highway'. The film features Randeep Hooda alongside her.
A major part of the film was shot in Kashmir, and the stills from the shooting were carried by several film portals and dailies. Imtiaz is among those directors who have constantly evolved with each film. From 'Socha Na Tha' to 'Rockstar', he has continuously experimented with his characters. In 'Jab we Met' and 'Love Aaj Kal', he presented the road or the way as a character. Most of his female characters are very fond of travelling and enjoy nature. Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Nargis Fakhri realise the difference between their wish and desire during some kind of travel.
It doesn't seem a coincidence that Imtiaz has once again chosen the road as the premise of his film. In 'Highway', Randeep Hooda, apparently a goon who belongs to the Gurjar community, kidnaps Alia Bhatt. However, this kidnapping turns out to be a joyride for Alia Bhatt who had been living in a protected environment till then.
The trailer shows Alia Bhatt doing all sorts of adventures things after being kidnapped. The ending of the trailer suggests she falls in love with Randeep Hooda. In medical terms, this is known as 'Stockholm Syndrome' where the oppressed feels a strong sympathy for the oppressor. It is also known as 'Capture-Bonding'. This term has become very popular in recent times as several such incidents have been reported in various newspapers. Now, it's Alia Bhatt's turn to play the role on-screen.
AR Rahman's music in the background stands out and it appears he is ready to rule the charts once again.
More than Alia Bhatt, the film is important for Randeep Hooda who is not getting his due despite coming up with good performances. He is playing a rough, raw kidnapper in 'Highway' and his collaboration with Imtiaz Ali may give him a chance to showcase his latent potential.
The trailer fetches attention for its breathtaking cinematography and haunting background score. The promoters of 'Highway' need to capitalise on it in order to receive a good opening at the ticket window.
