THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Saji Chunda has received the first prize in the photography competition conducted as part of the first Jackfruit Festival to be held in the city at the Kanakakunnu grounds from June 4 to 6. Saji, who belongs to Kannur, bagged the prize for his picture which shows an old couple, probably walking home, with the wife carrying a jackfruit on her shoulder walking behind her husband as the dusk falls. The second prize went to Sibi (Kasargod) and third to N Sreevalsan (Kozhikode). Rameshkumar (Kollam), Baburaj (Iringalakuda), Shyamal Das (Kolkata), Gopan Thaliyal (Thiruvananthapuram) and Selvan Poiyya (Thrissur) will get the consolation prizes. Devdas, secretary of the Photographic Society of Kerala, Wincy Lupez and Biju Karakonam, president and general secretary of the Light and Shade Association of Fine Arts Photographers, were the members in the judging panel. The prizes will be presented by Panchayats Minister M K Muneer on June 6 at the valedictory function of the National Jackfruit Fest. The fest is being organised jointly by dozens of voluntary organisations and local bodies.
