Jacobite head harps on SC remark

KOCHI: In a statement that could boomerang on himself, Baselios Thomas I Catholicos, the head of the Jacobite Syrian Church, on Saturday said that it has to be suspected if the observation by the Supreme Court that 20 per cent of judges are corrupt is true. “A person cannot be blamed if he suspects that the judgments are pronounced by accepting bribe,’’ the Catholicos said this while talking to mediapersons on the Kolenchery church issue at the venue where he is observing a fast.Jacobite Church spokesperson, Fr Varghese Kallappara, said the statement by the Catholicos should be considered in the background of the Supreme Court’s observation.Meanwhile, the Jacobite faction observed a ‘betrayal day’ on Saturday. A meeting of the feeder organisations of the Church was also held at Nedumbassery. Those who took part in the meeting declared support to the ongoing agitation.   “We will resist all attempts to politicise our agitation or pressure us. But it  does not mean that Jacobites are weak,’’ Fr Kallappara said.
