Jaipur: Even as Lakshmi is on her way to recovery, another baby born with a rare medical condition has been shifted to the J K Lone Hospital in Jaipur.
The baby was born with her heart beating outside her body. Her parents Shitala Devi and Shravan Gujar live in the Tonk district, where doctors at the district government hospital were amazed that the baby survived despite the condition.
"It's a one in a million case," says Dr Manmohan Vyas of the District Hospital, Tonk.
Just last week, two-year-old Lakshmi from Bihar was operated upon by doctors in Sparsh Hospital, Bangalore. The baby girl was born with four arms and four legs, and had a parasitic headless twin fused with her body at the pelvis.
Doctors performed a 27-hour surgery on Wednesday to remove her extra limbs. Lakshmi is out of the ICU now and is said to be stable.
