CHENNAI: Even before CM and AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa could land in Chennai from Bangalore, where she had gone to depose before a court in connection with an assets case, partymen had gathered in huge numbers in front of her Poes Garden residence. Matching the beats of the drums, the partymen danced as they waited for their leader to return.The AIADMK’s insignia, the two leaves symbol, and the party flag painted the approach road to the CM’s residence in varied colours.Ever since the poll results began pouring in, it was jubiliation for party workers. Scenes outside different counting centres in the city and at the AIADMK party office at Lloyds Road were reminiscent of celebrations five months ago after the party won a huge majority in the Assembly polls.Sensing a large turnout, a huge posse of policemen was deployed outside the CM’s residence. The crowd swelled with every passing minute as partymen sang and danced and made merry for at least two hours before their leader drove in.As her convoy drove in at 7.30 pm, the AIADMK chief was greeted with loud cheer. As she approached the crowd, Jayalalithaa rolled down the window and greeted the waiting partymen with folded hands and the cadre broke into loud slogans. Their day was made.Without much delay, a visibly tired CM drove into her house. As the gates of ‘Veda Nilayam’ closed, the crowd calmed down and slowly began dispersing. A long day has come to a sweet end.
