CHENNAI: Taking strong exception to the stand of the Indian Coast Guard that the Tamil Nadu government should proclaim a ‘No-Fishing Zone’ within five nautical miles from the Indo-Sri Lankan International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and impose punitive measures against TN fishermen who cross the IMBL, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, on Saturday, requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to “rectify this stand of ICG at the earliest before any irredeemable damage is done.”The CM, in her letter to the PM, described the stand as illogical, preposterous and absolutely outrageous and said that she was in total disagreement with it. Jayalalithaa reminded the PM about the stand of her government that from time immemorial, the fishermen of TN have been traditionally fishing in Palk Bay waters without any geographical or political boundaries.
