THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: CPM leader M V Jayarajan was admitted to the Central Prison at Poojappura here on Tuesday after he was sentenced to six months imprisonment by the High Court in a contempt of court case.He came under a heavy police cover and with the tumultuous support of hundreds of enthusiastic party cadres all along the path from Kochi to the state capital, to be confined to the same single room cell where former minister R Balakrishna Pillai stayed a few months ago. With a tag of C.6699, Jayarajan stepped into the seventh block room, adjacent to the jail hospital, as an ordinary convict.CPM cadre poured in and concentrated in front of the jail, as they were waiting for the arrival of Jayarajan for many hours, amid a tense atmosphere and reports of attempts of cadre to block the jeep and greet and garland Jayarajan being foiled by cops at some places on the way. However, when the convicted leader was brought, cadre blocked the convoy for around five minutes and cheered him to the jail entrance. Jayarajan valiantly reciprocated the adoration of the cadre by leaning out of the window of the covered jeep with a raised fist. The high drama ended soon, after cops chained the jail gates and the convoy vanished from the sight of cadre outside. It also pepped a general feeling of taking up another legal battle by the CPM and Jayarajan against the HC order against issues which have become hot political debating topic in the state like the court ban imposed on wayside gatherings.Jayarajan has not requested any special facility in the jail but he had been put up in a single room in view of security reasons.
