Inverness (Scotland): Indian golfers Jeev Milkha Singh and SSP Chowrasia made excellent starts at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open with rounds of 66 and 67 respectively here.
In the week before the Open, Jeev had as many as nine birdies, but he also dropped a bogey and a double bogey.
"Well it was a great feeling to come back with a round like that, even though the double bogey was a bit of a dampener," said Jeev, who was placed tied fifth.
Chowrasia had six birdies against one bogey and at 67 he was tied 12th alongside Luke Donald and Martin Kaymer.
Jeev said, "Anytime you shoot a 66 you take it. As I have said before I enjoy playing Links golf. It is an excellent golf course and I had a great start with three birdies in three holes. After that I had three more birdies and one bogey, then I had a hiccup on the 12th. I had a double there, but finished strongly with three birdies in last four holes."
"When you start and finish like that it gives you a lot of confidence. I have been playing well since Portrush (Irish Open) and it is just a question of trusting your game. In this game it is always a question of trusting your game under pressure and that seems to be happening and anything can happen."
Francesco Molinari dedicated a brilliant round of 62 to his injured brother Edoardo as he started his bid for a notable family double in Inverness. Edoardo is a part winner at Scottish Open.
The 29-year-old younger Molinari leads the field after a ten-birdie course record 62 at Castle Stuart Golf Links.
Edoardo won the title at Loch Lomond two years ago, three months before he and Francesco became partners in The Ryder Cup.
Chowrasia had one of the best rounds in Europe. He had three birdies in first four holes and then a bogey on the fifth. On the back-nine, he birdied the 13th, 16th and 18th and it rounded off a great day for him.
