JIPMER director Dr T S Ravikumar on Thursday said that JIPMER would take up clinical research in a big way. He was speaking at the three-day national workshop-cum-seminar on research methodology and publications.
Head of physiology C Adithan, dean KS Reddy, medical superintendent A K Das and head of pharmacology G K Pal also addressed the gathering.
Delivering the keynote address, former deputy director general (senior grade) of the Indian Council of Medical Research, K Satyanarayana, stressed on the need for improvement in medical research in India.
He said that India needs to take big steps in order to catch up with North America and Europe.
He pointed out that global funding for research and development is over US $1 trillion and added that United States was spending more than $35 billion and China US $2 billion whereas India was spending around $100 million. Satyanarayana said the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh are the leading institutions in the publication of research papers. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) lies in the ninth spot, he added.
