Jammu: The encounter in Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir that was underway since Thursday morning has ended with the Army killing the fourth terrorist who had been in hiding in a makeshift bunker.
Three other terrorists had been killed on Thursday during the fierce gunbattle with the Army. Four civilians and three jawans have also lost their lives in the encounter. The Army is carrying out combing operations at the spot.
An Army official said that security forces who had launched a cordon and search operation at the site of encounter in Arnia on Friday morning to retrieve bodies of civilians, came under fire from a terrorist hiding in a bunker triggering fresh exchanges.
The dead also included four heavily armed militants who were holed up in a bunker after they were suspected to have infiltrated into Arnia sector from across the border in Jammu district to carry out a fidayeen attack.
The attack comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to to the state on Friday to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The attack also coincided with the SAARC summit in Kathmandu attended by Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
