Kanakadurga temple to disclose assets under RTI

Officials of Kanaka Durga temple here, pulled up by information commissioner P Vijaya Babu recently, are planning to set up within a week about eight display boards with details of temple assets and other information on the temple premises for the benefit of public.

 Also to be displayed will be the names and other details of the first appellate authority, public information officer (PIO) and assistant public information officer (APIO).

 According to official sources, assistant executive officer Sai Prasad will act as public information officer (PIO) and public relations officer (PRO) Acthyutha Ramaiah will act as assistant public information officer (APIO), while executive officer M Raghunath is the first appellate authority.

 The temple authorities have so far not installed the boards as is mandatory under section 4 (1) a and b of the Right to Information Act, 2005.

 The information commissioner, who visited the temple and the office of the temple executive officer on Saturday last rapped the temple officials for their negligence asked them to erect the boards within 10 days.

 Speaking to Express, EO Raghunath said that they had not set up the boards due to a court stay relating the RTI Act as one temple in the state approached the court saying it does not come under the RTI Act.

 “However, since there is no stay in this regarding concerning Kanaka Durga temple, we are going to set up the boards and we will also display the worth of all the assets, including lands, ornaments and cash.

 The list will include 18 items and the value of these items will be mentioned on the boards,” he added
