BANGALORE: The Kannada Karavali Vedike organised a programme in the city on Sunday to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and Urban Development, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and BWSSB Minister S Suresh Kumar felicitated Harikatha Vidwan Santa Bhadragiri Achyutadas, actress Jayamala, artiste Shashidhar Udupa, Co-Chariman of Associated Chambers of Commerce’ (ASSOCHAM), South India, J Crasta and journalist B M Haneef with ‘Karavali Siri’ awards on the occasion.Sports person Deepa D’Souza who took part in the Special Olympics conducted in Athens last year was also felicitated.D’Souza was part of the Volleyball team representing the country.Addressing the gathering in Tulu, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda praised the Karavali region for having given birth to some of the country’s major banks and for having six major medical colleges.“The region has such diversity in languages. Even the food of this region is popular all throughout the country,” the chief minister observed on the occasion.Praising J Crasta for the ASSOCHAM’s assistance during the recently concluded Global Agribusiness Meet, Sadananda Gowda said, “Crasta provided much appreciated support to us in organising the Agribusiness Meet, we managed to make important decisions for the state there.”He also mentioned about the contributions of Harikatha Vidwan Santa Bhadragiri Achutadas to the State and said that he was honoured to present the award to such an eminent personality.Earlier in the day, there was a group discussion along with paper presentations on various topics.Cultural programmes were organised as part of the decennial celebrations.Started 13 years ago, the Kannada Karavali Vedike has a membership of more than 1000 members. The forum is actively involved in social service providing scholarships for students and holding health camps.
