BANGALORE: Notwithstanding the difficulties in land acquisition for industries, the state government on Thursday cleared 28 industrial projects, including eight sugar factories, with a total investment of Rs 8,622.41 crore.
The 25th state highlevel clearance committee, which met here on Thursday, cleared these proposals that had the potential to generate over 2,27,999 jobs.While the sugar sector got highest investment of Rs 2,006 crore, the automobile sector attracted around Rs1,450 crore investment.

"We are happy, considering the fact that existing investors have reaffirmed their partnership with further investments in the state," Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said, giving details of the projects that were approved at the meeting chaired by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

As many as eight sugar factories will come up in Bijapur, Mysore, Bagalkot and Belgaum districts with a total investment of Rs 1,900 crore. From these sugar factories, the state will get 190 MW of power to its grid.
