Bangalore: Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has expressed confidence that he will return as the Chief Minister after the Assembly polls next year. “As long as I have people’s support, nobody can finish me. I will return as the CM with the blessings of you (people) after the Assembly elections,” Yeddyurappa said at a BJP workers’ meet at Hirekerur in Haveri district on Sunday. He also took an indirect dig at BJP national leaders saying he did not need the support of anybody but common people and farmers.
“We need a farmer-friendly government, whichever party is in power. I will lead the struggle to get such a government,” Yeddyurappa said. The party bosses in Delhi have been ignoring Yeddyurappa’s demand for a plum party position. He is eyeing the post of state BJP president. Coming down heavily on Opposition parties as well as his own party leaders for “dislodging” him from the CM’s post, Yeddyurappa claimed he had not committed any mistake during his three-year tenure as CM.
On his state-wide tour, the former CM said: “My tour is to inform people about the good work I have done. I will continue with my tour. I always fought for the overall development of the state.” He also attacked the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for the “step-motherly treatment” to Karnataka in releasing aid to take up drought-relief measures. “The state Congress leaders have failed to impress upon the Union Government to release funds to the state,” he charged.
PWD Minister C M Udasi, Haveri MP Shivakumar Udasi, MLAs G Shivanna and Nehru Olekar, MLC Shivaraj Sajjanar and former MLA U B Banakar were present.
