Bangalore: Nikita Thukral is not an unknown name in the city. The actress who has performed various roles in films like 'Vamshi', 'Dubai Babu', 'Yodha' and 'Cottenpet' was roped in a controversy that evoked sharp reactions from various members of the film fraternity.
Karnataka Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) had even imposed a ban on the actress alleging her illicit relationship with Darshan. Several people campaigned against the decision of KFPA.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day Nikita interacted with City Express and spoke about women empowerment, the support she received by women rights organisations and her mind set during the entire controversy and ban. Speaking about women in the contemporary world, she said, "Women today are more powerful. As known to all, they have taken highest positions in every sector possible and have proved their talent. Today women cannot be considered submissive."
It goes unsaid that handling stress during times of controversy demands a strong mind set. Nikita who maintained a calm and composed state then, said, "During the entire controversy and ban, I never raised my voice against anyone. I never hesitated to answer any questions posed by the media or anyone."
Many women’s organisation across the country and abroad extended their support to the actress during the controversy. "Women rights association from Delhi and London supported my stand. Even Khushboo supported me during that period of time."
Recalling the days when she underwent such a phase in her life she said that she was happy that her family stood by her side. "Every mother is concerned about her daughter. My mother, father and sister encouraged me tremendously. In fact, my father was proud that I stood by my ethics," she added.
She considers the whole event as a temporary phase in her life and said that she has emerged much more stronger after the controversy. The actress also promises to lend a helping hand to any woman facing similar issues.
