KOTTAYAM: Rotten eggs were thrown at Government Chief Whip P C George while he was returning after attending a function at Parathode on Saturday. The eggs hit the windscreen of the private vehicle in which George was travelling after distributing certificates for class ten equivalency examination at Parathode Panchayat Hall, near here, police said. Even as there were reports blaming DYFI for the attack, sources in CPM rejected the charges and said that the youth members had just waved black flag against George and were not involved in pelting eggs. About 17 persons were arrested during the strike and thirteen cases were registered against DYFI activists for showing black flag and shouting slogans, police said. Four DYFI supporters were detained for blocking KSRTC buses at Melukavu and later released, police said.
