Thiruvananthapuram: A woman has been taken into police custody after the body of her 14-year-old son was found charred in Kollam district of Kerala.
Jaya Mol was taken into custody after she confessed of killing her son, police claimed, adding that her arrest will be officially recorded soon.
The investigation is on and the account given by Mol will be verified, police said.
Meanwhile, a 16-second video of Mol purportedly talking to the police and confessing about the crime has gone viral.
Her version is that family issues with in-laws led to the murder. Her statement to the police is that she was not in good terms with her in-laws due to a property dispute. As a result, she along with her husband and children were living separately.
She said that the boy went for a visit to his grandparents’ house and told them things which reflected badly on her. When she heard about it, she flew into a fit of rage and strangled him to death. Following the murder, she burnt his body.
Initially, she pretended he had gone missing. Her husband and the boy's father, Job, then filed a missing complaint with police. The police then discovered the burnt body of the boy in a rubber tree field which belonged to the family.
The boy also had a 23-year-old elder sister.
