Killer held two hours after crime

BANGALORE: A security guard of Corporation Bank ATM was stabbed to death by a robber who  tried to steal money from the machine in Subramanyapura police station limits in the wee hours of  Thursday.The deceased Chandrappa (55), a resident of Uttarahalli, was the security guard at the ATM of Corporation Bank, Uttarahalli branch  for the last two years. Police said that Chandrappa was killed when he tried to catch the accused, Simon Benedict, a native of Bihar red-handed.  The miscreant hit Chandrappa on the head with a blunt weapon and stabbed him with a knife repeatedly on his throat. Chandrappa died on the spot. The accused, after killing the guard made another attempt to break the ATM machine but in vain. According to police, a bank customer who had come to withdraw money at about 4.30 am found the security guard lying in a pool of blood. He alerted the police control room immediately. The police control room officials flashed the message to their police officers and personnel of the South division. Cheetah, the patrolling staff found a suspicious man walking near the ATM branch.  He started running when he saw the police personnel but was nabbed within two hours after the incident  took place. The police found a hammer, knife and other tools which were used in the crime. They also found blood stains on his bag and clothes.  Subramanyapura police are investigating the case. The postmortem of the body was done in KIMS hospital.
