Kishtwar violence: Curfew imposed in Jammu and Rajouri districts
There were no immediate reports of casualties in Jammu and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu: Arson and communal tension spread to Jammu and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir late Saturday night after which curfew was imposed there as authorities braced to contain spread the fallout of violence in Kishtwar district.

Attempts were made to set ablaze two shops and two vehicles torched in New Plot area of Jammu district, Divisional Commissioner Shant Manu said. Curfew was imposed in the entire Jammu district following the incidents, he said. Seven persons, including a a senior police officer, sustained wounds in clashes, canecharge and teargas shelling in Jammu city earlier on Saturday day.

Protests were held in Jammu and adjoining districts of region which observed bandh in protest against the communal clashes in Kishtwar district. Communal tension ran high in Rajouri district and curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure, SSP, Rajouri, Mubassir Lattifee said. Kishtwar district on Saturday witnessed stray incidents of stone-pelting even as army personnel patrolled the streets of as the local administration advised people to remain indoors and not to violate prohibitory orders.

Clashes were reported in Gulabgarh area of Paddar in the same district where people indulged in arson. Some shops were also burnt. Three persons were injured in firing during the clashes. State Police Chief Ashok Prasad was camping in the district since yesterday to take on-the-spot decisions besides ensuring coordination between the civil and army authorities, a senior official said.

Jammu bandh has been extended by 48 hours. Normal life was hit in Jammu and adjoining districts of the state due to today's bandh called against Friday's communal clashes in Kishtwar district. The Jammu and Kashmir Highway remained blocked at several places as protestors burnt tyres, sat on dharnas and put up barricades in Vijaypur in Samba, Rajpora in Kathua, Udhampur and Gangyal areas.

A large number of BJP, Bajrang Dal and VHP activists on Sunday marched in the Jammu city to protest against Kishtwar violence and later clashed with police and CRPF personnel as they stopped them from moving ahead. There was stone-pelting and clashes with police, which resorted to canecharge and teargas shelling. Seven people were injured in the incident. They included four police and CRPF men.
