A 65-year-old man, who assaulted by two men during an IPL match streaming in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, died on Saturday. Both the persons have been arrested, a police official said.
The deceased — Bandupant Tibile — was hit with sticks by Balwant Mahadev Jhanjge and Sagar Sadashiv Jhanjge after he cheered for the wicket of Mumbai Indians player Rohit Sharma in a match against Sunrises Hyderabad on Wednesday, the official noted.
Tibile sustained critical injuries after one of the accused struck him in the head. He was rushed to a hospital nearby, where he underwent treatment for the next two days, an India Today report said.
However on Saturday evening, the 65-year-old succumbed to his injuries.
“Tibile died on Saturday in a hospital after which Balwant and Sagar were arrested,” said the Karveer police station official.
Tibilie and Balwant — both hailing from Karveer tehsil’s Hanamantwadi — were each others next door neighbour.
Both the accused and the victim had gone to the house of the neighbour opposite their house — who had installed a TV — to watch the IPL match.
Reportedly, the match started off in quite a peaceful situation, but things went haywire when the supporters of Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad began taking on each other for every other thing in the game.
Before on would know, the situation was out of control and Balwant grabbed Tibile’s son by the neck and began beating him. Meanwhile, Sagar — Balwant’s nephew — hit Tibile on the head from behind with a wooden stick. Following this, the 65-year-old fell on the ground instantly.
His nose was bleeding profusely, following which he was rushed to the nearby CPR hospital.
