Kolkata docs show unity with AIIMS strike
Over 100 doctors and interns held a demonstration outside the CNMC against Health Minister A Ramadoss.

Kolkata: Junior doctors in the Kolkata medical colleges, on Thursday, joined the strike called by their peers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi to protest the move to sack AIIMS Director P Venugopal.

Over 100 doctors and interns held a demonstration outside the Calcutta National Medical College (CNMC), holding placards and shouting slogans against Health Minister A Ramadoss, who headed AIIMS's 17-member apex body that recommended Venugopal's removal for violating the code of conduct for government employees.

The doctors blocked the arterial C I T Road during peak hours, temporarily disrupting traffic. Similar protests were held at the Calcutta Medical College, where over 50 junior doctors struck work and burnt an effigy of Ramadoss to demand the immediate withdrawal of the recommendation to dismiss Venugopal.

As a result of the protests, services at the hospitals were partially affected, officials said.
