Kolkata: The temperature dropped to nine degree Celsius in Kolkata on Wednesday, the coldest day for the City of Joy in over 100 years. "Temperatures are not likely to fall any further," they said and forecast a rise in temperature to 10 degrees on January 11. The official said that skies would remain hazy for the next few days.
While the temperature was five degrees below normal in Kolkata, the maximum temperature recorded during the day was 19.3 degrees celsius.
Meanwhile, at least 34 more deaths have been reported from Uttar Pradesh as the unabated cold wave continued in North India, taking the death toll to 233 people. The minimum temperature in New Delhi rose to 4.4 degree Celsius from its previous 3.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday, but the Met department says mercury dipped to sub-zero levels in some parts of Uttar Pradesh.
