KSEEB plans to go paperless

The online downloading of hall tickets, online payment of examination fees and online submission of OMR sheets may be a reality for tenth standard students as the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) plans to go paperless.

The KSEEB, which conducts the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination for more than eight lakh students every year, has made a proposal to implement its new software as a pilot project in four districts. This will enable students to access essential SSLC records through the new KSEEB portal www.kseeb.kar.nic.in.

“The idea behind this is to introduce a system that is easy for parents and students. The request for proposal (RFP) for the new software and hardware is ready and we will send it to the technical approval panel (TAP) for approval,” disclosed D Venkateshaiah, Director (Exams), KSEEB.

The plan to go paperless comes after the the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), the nodal agency that conducts the Common Entrance Test (CET), took its entire counselling process online. The KSEEB has successfully adopted online delivery of hall tickets to nearly 8,000 candidates who wrote the Karnataka School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Council examination on Sunday.

“The long-term vision is automation of the entire KSEEB processes but it will take time to go paperless. For a start, we hope students can download hall tickets online and the like,” Venkateshaiah said, declining to reveal the estimated cost involved.

If the TAP approves the proposal, students writing the SSLC examination in March next year can pay their examination fees online and also download their hall tickets from the KSEEB portal. The KSEEB is also expecting a new storage server dedicated for SSLC. “Our present software is about 12 years old and our servers are getting full. We are expecting separate storage space from the State Data Centre,” he added.
