Lahore attack: Pak announces Rs 1-crore reward, detains 60

Lahore: The Pakistan government has began investigating Tuesday's terror attack on the Sri Lankan players in Lahore.

Police have detained 60 from various areas of Lahore and also seized three cars and a rickshaw believed to have been used by the 12 unidentified gunmen during the attack on the cricketers outside the Gaddafi Stadium.

Dawn News reported that 24 suspected people have been arrested by Lahore police since Wednesday morning in connection with the terror attack.

Among those detained are 12 boys from a hostel in Gulberg area where Gaddafi Stadium and Liberty Chowk are situated where the attack took place.

The government of Punjab province has offered a reward of Rs 1 crore for information leading to the arrest of terrorists responsible for the attack and their accomplices.

Advertisements placed in newspapers by the provincial government sought the help of the public help in identifying and tracking down the attackers.

Security personnel also recovered arms and ammunition from several markets in the area.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik said the terrorists came from three sides and trapped the Sri Lankan team bus.

However, there is still no information as of yet as to who or which group is behind the attack.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister's Office sources say India should help in the investigation.

According to sources, Pakistan is likely to request India to set up joint interrogation since a Mumbai-type attack was carried out in Lahore on Tuesday.

Sources have also told CNN-IBN that the Central Investigating Agency may take charge of the investigations.

Earlier, the bomb disposal squad had recovered hand grenades, Kalashnikov rifles, and five suicide jackets during their search operations on Tuesday.

A team headed by Additional IG (Investigation) Salahuddin Ahmad Khan Niazi is investigating the case and will submit a report to Punjab Governor Salman Taseer by Thursday.

Taseer on Tuesday claimed that the group which attacked the Sri Lankan players was also behind the Mumbai terror attacks carried out in November 2008.

"I want to say it's the same pattern, the same terrorists who attacked Mumbai," Taseer said.

"They are trained criminals. They were not common people. The kind of weaponry they had, the kind of arms they had, the way they attacked ... they were not common citizens, they were obviously trained," he added.

However, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Shipping Sardar Nabil Ahmed Gabol accused India of being behind the attack despite there being no evidence.

"The evidence which we have got shows that these terrorists entered from across the border from India," Gabol told Geo TV.
