Lalapet, Masab Tank flyovers to get a facelift

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will take up repair works based on the detailed investigation reports on flyovers at Lalapet, Masab Tank, Narayanguda and the road over bridge at Khairatabad. The decision comes after a survey of bridges and flyovers revealed that they reportedly developed hairline cracks on the main girders.GHMC officials said the inventory-cum-condition survey to collect detailed data for all bridges, ROBs and flyovers was taken up to collect information about their general conditions.  The work of inventory-cum-condition survey was entrusted to M/S Stup Consultants. Out of 37 structures proposed, reports on 28 structures have been received and observations made in the final reports draw attention towards the condition of wearing coat joint/ expansion joints, bearing pads, pedestals and hairline cracks on the main girders, which are part of the regular maintenance works on bridges.These type of issues are generally observed in ROBs, bridges, flyovers and can be rectified by taking up regular maintenance works, they added. Necessary further investigations will thus be taken up for Lalapet, Masab Tank and Narayanguda flyovers and Khairatabad RoB. GHMC to Remove Roadside EncroachmentsHyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will take up demolition of encroachments on road margins in all 18 circles on a priority basis from July 26 to 30.GHMC took the decision after the AP High Court, Lok Ayukta and Human Rights Commission expressed displeasure about the traffic congestion in the city and encroachments made on the road margins and public places. They directed the corporation to take necessary steps to remove the encroachments which have been causing inconvenience to vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement and thereby leading to frequent accidents.  GHMC has prepared an action plan for the removal of these encroachments in GHMC limits. Police force will be used to maintain law and order during the removal as there is a possibility of untoward incidents during the encroachment removal drive.
