Land misuse by aided schools irks PAC

The public accounts committee (PAC) has recommended to the state government that it take stringent action against aided schools across the state which were misusing the land allocated to them.

PAC committee chairman R Prakash Reddy, members E Rajender, B Durga Prasada Rao and K Rambhoopal Reddy reviewed the condition of primary educational institutions across the state in the Assembly here on Friday and found that some of the aided schools were violating rules and undertaking real estate business with the lands that were allocated for schools.

It cited the example of an aided school in Vizianagaram district which had received 100 acres of land from Bobbili Raja but had sold out much of the land instead of using it for the school’s benefit.

The committee also identified some aided schools where managements took bribes and allowed retired teachers to continue in service.

The PAC advised the government to take over such schools and initiate severe action against their managements for indulging in such malpractices.

It also reviewed the plight of computer education in elementary schools and found that the tutors were not being paid their salaries on time, also there was no power supply in the majority of the schools and computers were unused.

The committee recommended that the government revive the computer education and ensure that tutors are paid in time.
