Laurels for Tripunithura Govt Boys VHSS

TRIPUNITHURA: The students of Tripunithura Government Boys Vocational Higher Secondary School (VHSS) have been scaling new heights. After considering the state-level performance of schools and colleges in environment-related activities, the Bharat Petroleum Company Ltd (BPCL) selected the Government Boys VHSS as the best school in the State for its active involvement in social issues and the solutions they suggested to solve them."The socio-environmental activities of the students started three years ago under the guidance of the teacher Abdul Razak,” said Mini, teacher in charge of these activities now. Other activities of the students are ‘energy conservation club (Encon Club),’ ‘promotion of organic farming,’ ‘studies of the pollution rate of surrounding rivers’ and ‘spreading the message of a hygienic surrounding’, she said. “The students engaged in the project work could complete the mission interacting with the farmers, fisher folk and other residents who suffer the ever increasing emissions from various chemical factories in the area,” said Abdul Razak, the teacher who had led the team and at present working as the work shop manager at Jayabharath College of Engineering.As part of the Encon club activities, the students have visited houses of a selected area and gave guidance for the proper usage of electric equipments and energy consumption.They also distributed Energy Cards among the residents. A workshop on proper use of electricity in kitchen was also conduted for women.On a regular basis the students are engaged in cultivation of paddy and vegetables where they use organic manure and traditional farming style.  The school’s National Service Scheme unit is also organising programmes like cleaning mission, medical camp and other people friendly programmes.On August 1 Excise Minister K Babu officially released the detailed project report on the systematic study of the environment surrounding the two rivers and the level of pollutants emitted by the nearby chemical factories into these two rivers.
