MANGALORE: Unseen in any school, children do not just learn, but will also earn. A student achieving cent percent attendance does not get a mere pat and a certificate, but also receives an incentive of Rs 230, which is roughly Rs1 for attending all 230 days of school. And there is more in the offing for students who enrol in Hasanadka Lower Primary School at Amaramudnoor village in Sullia taluk.
It all started when Hasanadka Primary School, which celebrated its golden jubilee in 2010, faced a bleak future unable to check a rapidly falling dropout percentage. Most parents who enrolled their children in the school were located about 18 km from Sullia and were from SC/ST communities. The government's schemes to check dropouts like midday meal, NaliKali and free textbooks soon lost appeal, as parents with low income levels struggled to meet the requirements of their children.Madikeribased advocate Balasubrahmanya Kanjarpane decided to complement the government's efforts by sponsoring two more schemes. Under the Attendance Supporting Scheme, students who attended school on its working days were eligible for Rs 230 paid as incentive at the end of the academic year.

Under another Enrolment Supporting Scheme, Rs 1,000 was deposited in the names of all 19 students at Kukkujadka Vijaya Bank branch who enrolled in the school from first standard.

Balasubrahmanya Kanjarpane when contacted confessed to having developed a 'strong bond' with the school during regular visits to the arecanut farm located next to the school.
