Chennai: The strike by 4000 owners of LPG tankers lorries enter its sixth day on Wednesday. And this is likely to hit the supply of LPG cylinders in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka over the next couple of days. The tanker owners want oil marketing companies to renew tenders among other demand.
The Southern Region LPG Tanker Lorry Transport Owners Association, which is spearheading the strike, is pressing for various demands, including renewal of tenders by oil marketing companies.
Association President Ponnambalam said over 4,000 lorries have been off the roads since January 12. "Yes, the strike is still going on. All the lorries are off the roads", he said.
He said supply of LPG did not suffer during the festive season as many lorries distributed the load. "There may be some shortage of LPG supply in the next 2-3 days", he said.
He said they had not received any information from any oil marketing firms for further discussions and hoped there would soon be a meeting with officials. "So far nobody has contacted us", he said.
An IOCL spokesperson confirmed that LPG supply may be affected in the next two to three days. "As of now, there is no problem with supply. But we expect it would happen in the coming days", he said, adding they are geared up to manage the situation if it worsens.
