New Delhi: Sri Lankan fighter jets pounded LTTE targets on Tuesday even as ground forces pressed ahead to capture Mullaittheevu from the retreating rebels.
Officials claimed to have killed at least 26 rebels.
The Lankan military made precise air assaults on two LTTE positions in Iranamadu on Tuesday morning.
They have had a string of victories over the rebels in recent weeks. It has just taken the strategic Elephant Pass from the rebels.
The rebels are now confined to the jungles and lagoon district around Mullaitheevu on Sri Lanka's northeast coast.
