Sagar: The attempt to nab a seven-foot venomous cobra without proper expertise cost Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar resident Chintaman Rohit his life as he was bitten by the snake and later died at the hospital.
The victim decided to take refuge in god as he sat at a temple after being bitten instead of immediately rushing to a doctor.
A cobra had intruded into the Government Post Matric Girls Hostel in Sagar on Friday night. Rohit, the hostel superintendent’s husband, quickly tried to nab the serpent. He had reportedly nabbed two snakes that had ventured into the hostel in the recent past.
All Rohit had was a long stick which he used to pin down the snake. However, the snake retaliated and bit him on the palm as soon as the man tried to catch it.
A pious man, Rohit then nabbed the snake, made a deep cut on his palm with a razor blade and sat inside a Shiva temple seeking divine help. Neighbours and family kept pleading with him to seek medical help, but in vain.
After a while, the neighbours forcefully took Rohit to a nearby hospital and carried the snake along so as to ascertain its venom.
The effort was futile as Rohit succumbed to the snake bite.
