Manipur govt restrains the press
Manipur govt has put a ban on publishing militant press releases in verbatim.

New Delhi:The Manipur government has decided restrain the press against publishing press releases and statements given by different militant groups in verbatim. This has been done because it may prove to be 'misleading' the readers.

The decision to restrict newspapers and other media organisations was taken at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, sources were quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

Press releases or statements of militant outfits published in dailies, will be now read by relevant government departments, and examine whether the item was 'seditious' or not, sources were further quoted as saying.

The meeting took serious note of press releases and statements of militant outfits by certain dailies in the state observing it could 'mislead' the readers.

Newspapers and media organisations will only be allowed publish those portions of press releases or statements of the militant groups, that classifies to be 'news' to the public.
