Martyr's Daughter Threat Case: Don't Hang me Over a Laugh, Says Hooda
On Monday, Hooda wrote, "Don’t hang me over a laugh! Viru cracked a joke and I admit I laughed. Damn!! He is so witty and this is one of the other million things he’s said that has made me crack up. That was it!!”

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda took to Facebook on Monday to defend himself after facing criticism for allegedly supporting former cricketer Virender Sehwag, who trolled Kashmir martyr's daughter and Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur for speaking out against BJP's youth wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

On Monday, Hooda wrote, "Don’t hang me over a laugh! Viru cracked a joke and I admit I laughed. Damn!! He is so witty and this is one of the other million things he’s said that has made me crack up. That was it!!"

"But now, lo and behold, I'm being held responsible for instigating hate threats against a young girl, shockingly by the girl herself. That’s absolutely untrue. That was never our intention and our tweets is not the source of all the hate she might be receiving," Hooda further wrote.

The controversy started after after Sehwag posted a controversial tweet on February 26, in reaction to Gurmehar Kaur's video slamming ABVP. Randeep jumped into controversy by reacting to Sehwag's tweet and posted some smileys.

Earlier, clashes erupted at Ramjas College between Left Wing AISA and ABVP after an invite to JNU students Umar Khalid to address a seminar on 'Culture of Protests' was withdrawn by the college following ABVP opposition.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, students decided to take out a march in North Campus of Delhi University to protest against violence that happened in Ramjas and during the march that was taken out the following day.

Hooda further wrote in his Facebook post: "She spoke up, she stood for something she believes in, so then, she must also have the courage and fortitude to listen to the voices against it. To point fingers at someone else (in this case me) and hold him responsible for the reactions to her actions is not right. I have absolutely nothing against her and strongly believe that violence is wrong. Threatening a woman with violence is an even more heinous crime and the perpetrators should be brought to task with the most severe punishment."

Kaur, the daughter of Kashmir martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, landed in the eye of a social media storm on Monday after she started a campaign against the ABVP.

Kaur approached Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday and filed a written complaint after receiving obnoxious comments and "rape threats on social media". The commission is expected to issue a notice to Delhi police asking them to file an FIR on the basis of Kaur's complaint.

DCW Chief Swati Maliwal, while addressing the media, said that it was shameful that a martyr's daughter has received rape threats. "We have written a letter and I have personally spoken to Delhi Commissioner over the phone. We request Delhi Police to file a complaint and take a stern action against those who troll and abuse on social media," she said.
