New Delhi: Six months after acquiring Nokia's troubled cellphone and services division, Microsoft is now putting an end to the Nokia brand name from its products - renaming it as "Microsoft Lumia". The renaming of "Nokia" to "Microsoft Lumia" was first announced in a post on the Nokia France Facebook page before the company confirmed the news to technology websites.
Microsoft confirmed the news of its name changing plans to The Verge. Nokia France is among the first to adopt the "Microsoft Lumia" name for its Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts. "Other countries will follow the rebranding steps in the coming weeks," reports The Verge.
This is an indicator that Microsoft could also drop the Nokia brand from the Lumia phones, but there is no confirmation yet.
While Microsoft may kill the Nokia brand for smartphones, the Nokia brand will continue to exist as Nokia is also a seperate company that focuses on networks, mapping services and technology development and licenses.
